Whether you’re deciding if online learning is right for you, or already enrolled and looking for help — this is your page.

Deciding if NBVLC is right for you.

How our program works

NBVLC courses are led by New Brunswick certified teachers, aligned with the NB curriculum, and delivered through Brightspace. You stay registered at your home school while taking NBVLC courses.

What to expect as an NBVLC Student

Online learning at NBVLC is structured and teacher-guided — not independent study. Courses run over 18 weeks with weekly assignments, typically due Fridays. You’ll have flexibility in how and when you work, but you’re expected to follow the pacing, submit original work, and communicate when you need help.

Is Online Learning Right for You?

Online learning can be a great fit if you: need flexibility in your schedule, want access to courses not offered at your school, are pursuing Advanced Placement (AP) courses, prefer a quieter or more independent learning environment, need to recover or accelerate credits, or thrive when managing your own time.

It requires motivation, communication, and consistency.

Staying on track, day to day.

Access your courses here
  1. Log into Brightspace — NB students use school Single Sign-On, other learners use the username/password provided by NBVLC.
  2. Open your course, check announcements, and review your course outline and due dates.

Communication & Support

Course questions → your Online Teacher, through Brightspace.
Local supervision or in-school support → your home school / Local Facilitator.
Brightspace access, technical issues, or general program questions → [email protected]

Staying successful

Log in regularly and stick to a routine, check Brightspace at least weekly, keep track of due dates and course pacing, read your teacher’s feedback and announcements, and reach out as soon as something isn’t clicking — don’t wait until you’re behind.

Assessments & Supervision

Some assessments require supervision at your home school or an approved learning location, with instructions provided through Brightspace or school communication. You may also take part in a live assessment — an interview, conference, or follow-up activity — a normal part of online learning.

Late work & deadlines

Missing work can lower your grade until it’s submitted and graded. Drop-boxes close after roughly 4–5 weeks. To request one be reopened, complete a Drop-box Reopening Request form explaining the delay and your plan to catch up — extensions are typically only granted for extenuating circumstances.

Academic integrity & responsible AI use

All submitted work must reflect your own learning. AI tools may only be used when specifically permitted by your teacher or the assignment instructions, and any permitted use must be disclosed as directed.

Technical Support

You’ll need reliable internet access, a suitable device, access to Brightspace, and (when required) a headset or microphone. For issues, contact [email protected].

Wellbeing

If you’re struggling, reach out early. Keep a regular routine and workspace, check Brightspace at least weekly, and contact your Online Teacher or home school if you need support.
